Please join us for the LCPS High School Art Exhibit that will formally open Tuesday, March 1st 3:30-5:00pm in the foyer of the Dr. Karen M. Trujillo Administration Complex. There is no need to arrive exactly at 3:30pm, but your presence before 5:00pm closing would be much appreciated. Our district gallery team has juried all exhibit pieces and the following works were selected for award. All exhibit entries were truly outstanding! Congratulations to the award-winning students and all of the students and their teachers whose work is featured in the exhibition. The two selected students and their teachers will be recognized at the March 15 regular school board meeting and each will be presented a cash prize of $25 donated by the owner of Picture Frame Outlet, Greg Groves. • 2 Dimension Award - "Shoes in the Classroom" by Mikaella Nieto, 10th grade, Organ Mountain HS (Ana Iguaran, Art teacher) • 3 Dimension Award - "Turtle Tiles" by Alena Hernandez, 11th grade, Centennial HS, (Amanda Marcott, Art teacher)

The City of Las Cruces will be working with the United Way of Southwest New Mexico in hosting a financial literacy program. The program will teach residents about their finances, how to save, budgeting, fixing their credit and other topics. The English cohort starts on Tuesday March 8th and the Spanish cohort starts on Wednesday March 9th. There will be an opportunity for children 5-11 to receive a Pfizer vaccine on February 25, from 1:00pm-4:00pm at Alameda Elementary Community School, located at 1325 N Alameda Blvd, Las Cruces, NM 88005. CONGRATS APECHS Chess Team!!! Way to represent and finish 2nd place in today's state championship! The state team included Emilia Coombs, Freddie Barncastle, Mack Pakorny, Christopher Martinez, and Aldo Gonzalez. Congrats also to the side team players fpr strong finishes, Enrique - 3rd, Felicity- 4th, Richard 6th, Jai - 11th, Keyon - 12th, Josh - 13th.

E-Sports is off to a good start as we won our first Rocket league match against an Indianna team. Our head players are John McGrath, Jaden Cordova and Nathan Stern. If you interested in joining E Sports please stay after school on Thursday’s, room 724.

CONGRATS!!! Lauren To is the Poetry Out Loud winner for APMA. Esther Heerema is the Poetry Out Loud winner for APECHS. They recited 3 poems by memory and were judged for accuracy and dramatic appropriateness. They will both compete in the NM State contest next week.

District Lifts Mask Mandate : Following orders from the governor, Las Cruces Public Schools has lifted the indoor mask mandate for students and staff. Effective immediately, masks will be optional while district officials evaluate current COVID-safe practices. February is Black History Month! We are kicking the month off by recognizing the great Clara Belle Williams who lived, studied and worked in Las Cruces. Williams was the first African-American graduate of the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now NMSU) in 1937. After graduation, Williams taught at the Booker T. Washington School in Las Cruces for twenty-seven years before retiring and moving to Chicago in 1951 to join her sons who had opened a medical clinic. A pictured plaque of Williams is on display on the Legacy Wall at the Las Cruces Public Schools Dr. Karen M. Trujillo Administration Complex. The plaque honors Clara Belle Williams, recognizing her establishment of Booker T. Washington Elementary School, calling her a pioneer in education.
