In the summer, the Las Cruces Public Schools Safe Routes to school program suffered a setback. On June 17, a storage area at Lynn middle school was broken into and nine bicycles were stolen.
Working quickly with Las Cruces police, our safe routes coordinator, Ashleigh Curry, gathered her team and started searching through social media for any tips or leads on recovering the bikes. After recognizing one of the bikes for sale on Facebook, Ashleigh notified the police, and through a series of quick investigative work, a theft ring was discovered, an arrest was made, and five of the bicycles were recovered, along with two stolen vehicles that were part of a separate investigation.
For their diligent work, Las Cruces Public Schools would like to thank Officer Austin Kane of LCPD and Lieutenant Joy Wiitala. The LCPD unit that investigated and recovered the bikes was the Community Street Crimes Unit, along with the following personnel:
Sgt. Lazarin
Sgt. Campa
Officer Smith
Officer Rodriguez
Officer. Palos
Officer Velasco
Officer Kelley
Officer Kane
Officer Mora
Officer Roybal
Officer Berling

It's time again for Ngage NM's Annual Fundraiser, Celebrity Karaoke. You may remember our partners from Ngage that launched the New Mexico mobile children’s museum and family resource center.

This fundraiser benefits Ngage NM and local participating nonprofits alike. We will have a silent auction, food, drinks, live performances from local nonprofit teams, and, of course, the allocation of the 2024 Doña Ammy Award made by our very own Carrie Hamblen.

Transportation Update: Good evening parents, all buses that were delayed have completed their final routes.

Dear parents,
Due to lightning within 10 miles of our schools during elementary dismissal, buses will be running late for middle and high school students.
Please check your school's website for updates.

We are no longer in Shelter in Place. School is resuming as normal.

MVLA is currently in Shelter in Place due to lightning! If we are still in place during pick up, please drive into the parking lot for pickup as usual, but DO NOT pull up to the cone AND DO NOT get out of your vehicle. As your vehicle gets to the front door of the school, a staff member will get your name, call your student and send them directly to your car. This will allow for your student to walk approximately 15 feet from the door to your vehicle. If you do not want your student to be dismissed to you, please do not get in the pick up line. Call and let us know if you intend to wait until the shelter in place is lifted.
Shelters in place for lightning we must "return to normal activity only be made once the weather system has clearly passed form the area, typically no lightning strikes within 10 miles have occurred within thirty minutes."

Catch an all new season of Super News where LCPS.TV highlights all the ways LCPS students & staff THRIVE. Tune in to season 3, episode 1 of the district's newscast on Aug. 2.
You can watch the episode by visiting your school's website or on youtube.com/@LCPSTV

Teams from Equity and Operations Divisions collaborate on the development of a Whole Student Wellness Framework. This will help us identify high impact priorities around the educational environment! #LCPS #TheAnswerIsInTheRoom
